What is the substance that most people in the world absolutely love? Chocolate ofcourse! But did you know that instead of eating it, there’s other beneficial ways to use it for your hair?
What does the chocolate hair mask offer?
When you think of a chocolate mask, you’re most likely imagining having a melted chocolate bar on the top of your head, sinking slowly into your hair. But no, fortunately that sticky situation is not the right way to use a chocolate mask.
Chocolate is made of cocoa beans, grinded into cocoa powder and from there on mixed with the right stuff – made into the beautiful sweet chocolate that we can buy from the shops. The cocoa powder is the one that you can use for hair masks, without getting your hair covered with sugar.
Did you know that the cocoa mask can reduce hair loss, make your hair grow faster and also turn the texture of your hair much soften, shinier and times more attractive than before? Not to mention the smell that will stick to your hair.
Cocoa powder by itself contains a large amount of proteins, vitamins, minerals and good fats that help the hair follicles and scalp to receive the nutrition and care that they require. It also helps to repair weakened or damaged hair, which is why it’s often used for hair treatments.
Some hair salons also offer the chocolate hair masks, but they tend to be more on the expensive side and out of the price range that you’ve set. So why not do hair masks with chocolate right at your home by yourself? It costs less, takes less time yet gives exactly the same results. Let’s get started!
DIY chocolate hair mask
For this mask, I chose to also add honey and coconut oil, because both of them contain ingredients that add shine and make the hair softer. Here’s what you’re going to need:
- 2 table spoons of cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon of cocoa butter (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- Half a spoon of coconut oil
Take the cocoa butter and coconut oil, put them in a bowl and add the honey. Warm the mixture up until the cocoa butter and coconut oil melt, then mix it. Add the cocoa powder to the mixture and give it another stir.
Comb your hair into 4 sections and begin to apply the mixture to your hair, starting with the ends and moving up towards the scalp. If you’re targeting hair loss, then you can use the whole mixture on your scalp and also include a brief scalp massage to encourage the blood flow in your scalp.
You should let the mixture stay in your hair for about 15-30 minutes if your hair are light by shade, for darker hair we recommend you to keep the mask on for about a 40 minutes to an hour.
The mask is very simple to wash out with the help of a shampoo, feel free to use a conditioner although it might be a little too much considering that you just had a 30 minute conditioning hair mask on.
How often can you do the chocolate hair mask?
The chocolate hair mask treatment can be repeated more than once per week, although ideally it should be limited to once a week treatment. The mask is very conditioning to the hair and over-doing it can make your hair appear too heavy and lack of volume.
