How to cure an itchy scalp

Have you gotten an itchy scalp a few days after you wash hair? It’s actually a very common thing to happen, although the amount of itching can vary from light to severe.

What causes an itchy scalp?

The causes behind this could be several reasons, from dryness of the scalp to being hypersensitive to the products you use to wash your hair with. You could also have a form of eczema or psoriasis that cause this kind of condition, but usually that’s not the case.

A few cases found in our research have noticed the itching increasing with sweating. Whether this is due to sweating during your sleep or after having a good jog, it will turn into a very frustrating itching, followed by scratching.

On the worst case scenario this can cause your hair to start falling out in masses, due to the stress the scratching is putting on them. You shouldn’t wear any hair extensions when you have an itchy scalp, because the extensions only add to the stress.

How to cure an itchy scalp?

If you want a specific answer why this is happening, the best thing you can do is go see a dermatologist about it, who could pinpoint exactly what’s the reason behind the itching, and how to help it improve.

But if you’re looking for a fast and easy solution, then the next best thing you can do is change all the products that come in contact with your scalp. We don’t recommend choosing Johnson’n’Johnson baby shampoos as their real effect relies in temporarily numbing the area of impact rather than soothing it.  Try to find something that is meant for sensitive skin, and possibly free of any harmful chemicals.

Another thing you can try is rinsing your hair with ice cold water after washing it. By doing this you’d use the cold water to close any open pores in your skin.

This is a temporary solution that works, although it might not be the most pleasant one. With this the itching could come back within 2-3 days, after which you need to repeat the process and be determined to keep a regular cycle.
